WORK HISTORY

June 2010 Temp work, Urban Moves Property Consultancy

During my time here I gained invaluable customer-facing experience through handling telephone enquiries. I also wrote descriptions of properties and carried out administrative tasks such as filing.

November 2009 Work Experience-Psychologies Magazine

My primary duty during my time here was research, using both the internet and national newspapers. My other duties were transcribing interviews, editing reader’s letters and searching for environment related stories for the ‘Carbon Karma’ blog which appears on the Psychologies website. I also wrote one of the articles which appears on the blog.

October 2009 Work Experience-Financial Times

In this placement I assisted the Books and House and Home departments of FT weekend. My chief duties were proof-reading and fact-checking, but research was also an important component. I searched out and wrote up information for the ‘Trendspotter’ and ‘On Show’ columns of House and Home, and contributed reviews for the Books section.

August-September 2009 Work Experience-Time Out London

In the course of this four week placement I gained invaluable insight into magazine journalism, particularly the importance of deadlines. I assisted numerous sections and departments, and my tasks included researching for features, data entry, sub-editing, filing, location photography and client liaising. I also contributed reviews for the Film, Television, Books and DVD sections, some of which have been published in the magazine.

July 2009 Work Experience-Elwin Street Productions

Here I added further to my publishing house experience, including general office practices, editing manuscripts, picture research using various image agencies, and searching for and contacting photographers for illustrated books.

May 2009 Work Experience – Rupert Crew Limited

Gained invaluable office and publishing house experience including general office practices, archiving and archive retrieval, assessing unsolicited material, editing manuscripts and researching appropriate publishers for accepted material.

2008 – 2009 Child Care

Since completing my studies and while looking for full time employment, I have been caring for two children (aged one and four years respectively) on a part time basis. Whilst not being directly related with my preferred career, it is testament to my organisational and coping skills as any parent or carer will testify.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

Computer literate with experience of Microsoft Office suite and many commonly used Windows applications including digital imaging applications such as Paintshop Pro.

Basic foreign language skills including French & Italian, which I continue to develop.

PERSONAL INTERESTS

I have a passion for satire and creative writing. Whilst studying at UCL, I was a columnist for UCL’s satirical publication, ‘The Cheesegrater’ and also submitted a script to the UCL Television Society, entitled Eminent Historians; a satirical critique on television documentaries.

Recently, in my leisure time, I have enjoyed visiting art galleries with my friends. Whilst I cannot say that I have a particular favourite artist or style, I have learnt that I can appreciate many styles on their own merit.
